ReEnchant Planet Earth

My lovely friend Marilyn, who lives in Cary, NC, has been working diligently on a new website called Re-enchant Planet Earth. It's slowly getting filled up with local, inspiring, positive stories and has a great free newsletter called Thee Talking Stick. I really love getting these stories delivered to my email box.

I'm passing this on because Marilyn isn't on Tribe (though it is my intention to get her on here!) and I think that a lot of people might connect to her vision. She's always looking for writers, friends and people to collaborate with.

Here's the website:

www.reenchantplanetearth.com

I really LOVE her idea of iCircles, where she allows people to have a phone conference with the story writers - so they can connect to others with like minds. Brilliant!

To raise awareness: Nazi Socialist Movement Gains Momentum in South Carolina - Rally Photos from Near Home

Ok - this is not meant to be alarmanistic, but please check this out.

My acquaintance and fellow Appalachian writer, Jennifer Bowen, is one of our areas leading digital, print and photography artists - she captured these images of the National Socialists Movement in America only a few days ago IN South Carolina, on the steps of the Capitol building. They had a HUGE South Carolina High Patrol security detail to protect them, South Carolina Law Enforcement Department agents combing the crowd and treating Nazi rally protestors - what in the hell is going on?
Benevento Russo Duo in Asheville 10-21

Benevento Russo Duo
plus Chris Harford and the Band of Changes
Saturday, October 21st
at The Orange Peel
Asheville, NC
9:30 PM (8:00 PM doors)
$10.00 advance
$12.00 doors

Two guys, four hands, kaleidoscopically exploding wall of sound. Fifteen years playing together, 250 shows per annum, famous to the underground—they are Marco Benevento and Joe Russo. Straight outta Brooklyn like a gringo Sly & Robbie (with tortoise-shell rims), our masked crusaders—organist Marco Benevento and drummer Joe Russo—splinter indie rock and jazz with sweepingly efficient arrangements that snap, crackle and pop the fine lines one finds in trying to categorize music. Their whisker-brush detail to a gargantuan sound, allows freedom for the music that is only getting bigger.

...and moving across town to be nearer the dance studio, my kiddos' preschool and my aging mommy. Anyone need a 3 bedroom house in the Kenilworth neighborhood in Asheville, NC? This place has been awesome, almost two acres right near downtown and so much privacy we have practiced swordfighting and had bonfires in the backyard and all kinds of hijinx.
Contact me if you are thinking about something like this - in fact I have seen quite a few houses between 120-250 as we have been looking for a new one, so I may be able to help...

ARTIST CALL for 2006 FAMES

Calling all artists. Visual, Performance, Musical, every sense.

Interested in showing your art (and selling, if you choose) in a different atmosphere? A one night set up and break down.

Glamoore Productions proudly hosts its third Saturday installments of "Artistic Interpretations." Local art one night expose' showcasing artistic talents from all over the triangle area. From amateurs to professionals. We combine the delights of fashion themes, art, music and cocktails.

A unique blend of house music and other genres to get you dancing later in the evening. Glamoore Productions is currently seeking artists who are interested in displaying their work in a "gallery" like no other.

Past FAME events have drawn large crowds inside RINGSIDE's intimate, eclectic club with 4 floors of entertainment.

No showing fee, no commission taken. We want you to promote yourself and our party!
This is a great way for either emerging or well-established artists to display their work in a "non-traditional" gallery-type setting. We simply provide the environmental canvas to you for an evening of exceptional fashion, art, music and culture.

So, if this sounds appetizing to your palate, uh-hmm, we mean art palate, then please submit a response to this "casting call". Please be certain to include the following information in your reply: Full Name, Email address, Phone Number, and either digital samples or an URL to your online portfolio. We look forward to hearing from you!

Febuary 18: PASSION

Just joined this Tribe and wanted to give a shout out. I live on Ocracoke island and am looking for other folks in the area. I hope to make it out to some of these yummy events in our Piedmont area. If any one is passing through the Outer Banks give a shout. We have a large piece of property and a great beach. Cold, but no tourists right now. Love, Jerry

The Dresden Dolls are touring again and we're looking for interactive performers in the audience for the shows. What you do is pretty much up to you, so use your imagination! Juggling, roller skates, human statues, mechanical ballerinas, bellydancers, trained monkeys, saw soloists, etc... It will be great exposure as their shows have been selling out all over the place. And we definitely need people for Carrboro, Asheville and Columbus

The tour is as follows:

10/08 Austin TX
10/09 Houston TX
10/10 Dalla TX
10/12 New Orleans LA
